3 Faith-Based Practices to Reduce Stress
We all experience stress in our lives, and sometimes, it can feel overwhelming or even debilitating. We’re all trying to find successful ways to cope with stress. Here are three faith-based practices that we can all incorporate into our lives to reduce stress.
Pray.
Prayer is a conversation between you and God. The Bible tells us not to worry about things, but to pray about everything, making our requests known to God (Philippians 4:6). When we do this, the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). God is here for us; He is open to conversation and He can make things better. We just have to go to Him.
Praise.
Singing praises to God helps to relieve the stress that we feel. David is an example of someone who praised God constantly in the Bible. He would sing praises to God all the time--when he was alone, when he was sorry, when he was burdened. And he demonstrates that by praising God through songs, hymns, and prayers, our spirits can be lifted, and we can carry out our assignments from God. Regardless of what things look like around us, praising God can shift our perspective and strengthen our spirits.
Meditate.
Choose a verse, any verse--one you connect with, one that brings you comfort, one that inspires you. Write it down. Memorize it. Think about it. Learn it. By doing so, you are meditating on the Word of God, and when you are feeling stressed, go to that verse. Meditate on it, and allow it to renew your mind.
Even though we all deal with stress, we must remember that God’s Word provides remedies for stress, and we must put these remedies into practice. Pray, praise, and meditate on the goodness of God--it will surely help!
