3 Steps to Remind Yourself of Your God-Given Identity
Let’s be honest: The world is loud. Did you know that experts estimate that the average person is exposed to between 4,000 and 10,000 advertisements per day? That’s a lot of messages!
With so much trying to capture our attention, telling us what we “have to have” and what we “shouldn’t waste our time on,” how can we ever discern the truth? What’s worse is that some of these messages even attempt to tell us who we are as individuals. Worldly things will say to us that we’re not enough or that our worth is tied to what we achieve.
But God’s Word says something completely different. Even though we’re faced with countless messages every day, we must decide that the Bible is the only authority we will listen to when it comes to determining our identity (and that it’s the ultimate authority for everything else).
If you’re wrestling with who you are, try these steps to remind yourself every day of your identity in Christ:
Identify your identity gaps.
Where do you need the most help with your identity? Is it your emotions? Your dreams? Your relationships? Identify the “identity gap” you're experiencing and write it down.
Pick a Bible verse.
Next, find a Bible verse that talks about that specific identity gap. This can be as simple as searching "Bible verses about (topic)." Pick one verse that stands out to you, and write it down.
Pray that verse over yourself daily.
Pray over that verse daily. Set it as your phone's lock screen. Write it on a note and hang it on your mirror or put it in your car. Set it as a reminder on your phone. Speak the verse out loud every day to remind yourself of your true identity in Christ!
