How to Rest When You're Really Busy

Feeling stretched thin? Running on fumes?

You weren’t made to run on empty. You were made to thrive, and that means building in restorative pauses that refuel your mind, body, and spirit. Here’s how to recharge in a busy season:

Create some quiet moments.

Even five minutes in the morning or night to breathe, pray, and journal or sit in silence makes a difference.

Do some self-check-ins.

Ask yourself: What am I feeling? Why am I feeling this way? What do I need? Then meet that need when possible.

Schedule a weekly Sabbath.

Unplug, slow down, and do something life-giving. Walk, nap, enjoy music, dance, or be in nature. Make sure you include some time to be in Scripture, pray, and worship!

Pray and repeat calming mantras.

When stress spikes, try saying, “Be still,” or “I am grounded and safe.” Pray for your needs, but also try praying for other people. When we pray for others, we take the focus off ourselves.

Lean on your people.

Share the load! When you’re feeling overwhelmed, let other people pray for you, help you, or sit with you. Be outspoken about your needs, and allow people to help meet those needs.

Learn to say “no.”

You were made for more than hustle. Slowing down isn’t weakness but wisdom, and rest isn’t a break from life. It's a part of living well.

Try these tips to rest during your busy seasons, and let us know how it works for you!
